As announced late last year, SIOR Chief Executive Officer, Tom McCormick, SIOR, is retiring, effective December 31, 2020. On behalf of the SIOR Board of Directors and staff, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Tom for his leadership in SIOR and a big congratulations on a well-deserved rest.

A self-proclaimed “road warrior,” Tom spent much of his tenure at SIOR living up to that reputation. He traveled the world on behalf of SIOR, visiting chapters, attending industry events, and extolling the benefits of being an SIOR to our next generation of members.

Over the course of his time as CEO, we saw SIOR reach its highest levels of membership ever, with both record numbers of new members joining and an incredibly strong member retention rate, unheard of in the industry. Our conferences have grown in attendance, along with the depth of industry partners joining us for best-in-class education and unparalleled networking. Our brand is strong, with SIORs being recognized as thought leaders in the industry and the designation seen as a symbol of ethics, partnership, and success.

He dedicated not only the last 2 ½ years of his professional career, but his 35+ years as an SIOR giving back to the industry. From his start as a successful broker, he led SIOR at all levels, ultimately serving as SIOR’s president in 1998, as well as two years as president of the SIOR Foundation starting in 1999. In 2010, he was presented with SIOR’s prestigious Howell Watson Distinguished Service Award.

The search for our next CEO is well underway and we expect to make an announcement early in 2021. The search committee, led by Craig Meyer, SIOR, has been actively engaged over the course of 2020, working closely with our firm, Korn Ferry. We are confident we will engage with an individual who will bring strategic vision and leadership for the next phase of SIOR’s success.
