David has been involved in the commercial/industrial real estate business since 1979. A native of Kansas City, David went to college in Ft. Worth, Texas and started his career with the Vantage Companies in Dallas, Tx. Returning to Kansas City in 1983, he joined Zimmer Real Estate Services. David is married to the former Diane Cunningham (Dallas) and they have two children, Lauren (SMU '10) who is an investment analyst with Jones Lang LaSalle in Dallas and Katie (SMU '12). In his spare time, David enjoys hunting, golf and spending time at their home in Northern Wisconsin.

David J. Zimmer began his professional career with The Vantage Companies in Dallas, Texas in 1979 after graduating from Texas Christian University. In 1983, he returned to his hometown of Kansas City and joined the family business, Zimmer Real Estate Services, which was founded by his grandfather in 1948.

Zimmer is a full service real estate firm headquartered in Kansas City with four (4) operating divisions including Sales and Leasing, Property and Facility Management, Corporate Services and Development Management.

Today, David serves as President of Zimmer Real Estate Services while still providing industrial and commercial brokerage services for regional and national clients such as Hallmark Cards, Russell Stover Candies, Grantham University, Bayer Corporation, and Kansas City Power & Light plus numerous private and institutional investors who have multiple assets in the Kansas City area.

David has provided dedicated service to not only the commercial real estate industry, but civic organizations over the years. He has served as the president of the Metropolitan Kansas City Board of Realtors as well as serving on its Executive Committee and its Board of Directors. David has also served on the Executive Committee of the Heart of America Council for Boy Scouts of America for nine years.

In 1988, David joined the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. He has become a leader in SIOR, serving in the past as president of the Western Missouri/Kansas Chapter, Regional Vice President, Vice President, President-Elect and International President of SIOR in 2011. In addition, he has served as President of the SIOR Foundation and currently serves as a Trustee.

David has been recognized for his contributions to and successes in the commercial real estate industry. He was selected as the Metropolitan Kansas City Board of Realtors’ Salesperson of the Year in 1992 and Commercial Realtor of the Year in 1995, and is a recipient of Junior Achievement of Kansas City “Up and Comers” Award. David was named the ONCOR International CEO of the Year in 2005 and most recently was named to Midwest Commercial Real Estate’s Hall of Fame. In 2009, David became a Fellow member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
