SIOR Arizona Chapter Learns about the Future of Arizona Development
The SIOR Arizona Chapter gathered on May 15 at the El Charro restaurant in Paradise Valley, Ariz. Chris Camacho, director of the Greater Phoenix Economic Development, and Brian Kearney, senior vice president of development at Catellus, spoke to more than 75 Chapter members and guests. Kearney spoke about Catellus’ partnership with Arizona State University to redevelop the university’s sports facilities, while Camacho elaborated on how California’s difficulties in retaining businesses creates opportunities for Arizona.
SIOR Chicago Chapter hosted the County Assessor
On May 28, the SIOR Chicago Chapter, the Association of Industrial Real Estate Brokers (AIRE), and the Chicago Chapter of CCIM co-hosted a lunch at Gene & Georgetti's in Rosemont, Ill., with special guest Fritz Kaegi, the newly elected Cook County Assessor. Assessor Kaegi spoke on plans for data modernization in the Assessor's office and his commitment to transparency and eradicating corruption from the office.
SIOR European Regional Chapter Tours Airport
Jeroen Govers, head of real estate at the Brussels Airport Company, invited SIOR European Regional Chapter members to a private tour of Brussels Airport in June to hear the strategic vision of the airport company up to 2040. Paul McDowell, SIOR, president of the European Chapter, along with Matthew Leguen de Lacroix, SIOR, presented SIOR’s latest international video to Belgian and British nationals, underlining the advantages of membership.
SIOR European Regional Chapter Sets Sights on Growth in France
The SIOR European Regional Chapter participated in an educational and networking event, sponsored by SIOR Associate Member, Quartus. Presenter Sander Scheurwater, director of Corporate Strategy at RICS, discussed the future of commercial real estate brokerage. SIOR Global CEO, Tom McCormick, SIOR, and SIOR Vice President of Membership, Michael Topp, attended to support the European Board and meet with prospective members in the Paris market.
SIOR European Regional Chapter Expands Reach in Italy
Antonio Campagnoli, SIOR, chairman of FIABCI Italia, invited SIOR members to Milan in early June to participate in a real estate conference/networking event, “Beer and BBQ.” Alberto Iori, SIOR, and Matthew Leguen de Lacroix, SIOR, spoke with the Italian delegates about the benefits of joining SIOR.
SIOR European Regional Chapter Makes Diversity Moves
Three SIOR European Regional Chapter members attended an April networking event with the UK Chapter of CREW Network at London’s Gherkin building. Matthew Leguen de Lacroix, SIOR, is the first European SIOR to join CREW.
SIOR Georgia Chapter’s Got Birdies and Bobbers
The SIOR Georgia Chapter hosted its 18th annual Fishing & Golf Tournament at the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta on May 14. The event concluded with a cocktail reception and buffet where the winning teams were announced. Jeff Kelley, SIOR, and Ben Logue, SIOR, won the “Most Fish Caught” and Gabriel Silverstein, SIOR, won the “Largest Fish Caught.”
SIOR Inland Empire and Orange County Chapter Awards Scholarship
On May 1, the SIOR Inland Empire and Orange County Chapter presented The Keith Wilson/SIOR Foundation Scholarship to Kareem Tobgy, a senior at California Polytechnic University of Pomona. The $3,000 scholarship is awarded annually to business or finance students at four-year universities in the Inland Empire and Orange County area with an interest in pursuing a career in commercial real estate.
SIOR Inland Empire and Orange County Chapter Spends an Evening with Enron’s Former CFO, Andrew Fastow
Andrew Fastow, former CFO at Enron, spoke to more than 80 members and guests of the SIOR Inland Empire and Orange County Chapter at the Twenty-Eight Restaurant and Bar in Irvine, Calif. Fastow shared how the ambiguity and complexity of laws and regulations breeds opportunity for problematic decisions. He discussed what questions corporate directors, management, attorneys, and accountants should ask to ensure that companies not only follow the rules, but uphold the principles behind them.
SIOR Mexico kicks off their first golf tournament
On June 7, the SIOR Mexico Chapter held its annual Golf Tournament in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. Twenty-eight attendees participated in the tournament, including SIOR Global President-Elect, Mark Duclos, SIOR. Attendees discussed commercial real estate trends in Mexico with seven prospective members.
SIOR New England Chapter Learns about New Area Developments
The SIOR New England Chapter held a landlord evening on April 18 at Tuscan Kitchen in Boston. The event was hosted by Joe Faro, developer of Tuscan Village—a 2.8 million square foot redevelopment of the former Rockingham Park Horse Track. Approximately 33 SIOR and guests were in attendance.
SIOR New Jersey Chapter Kicks Off New Speaker Series
On May 2, one hundred and ten guests gathered at Il Villaggio in Carlstadt, N.J. for the SIOR New Jersey Chapter’s first annual Prologis Speaker Series Luncheon. Rick Gabrielson, president and owner of RS Gabrielson and Associates, addressed the changing characteristics of warehouse properties. Gabrielson has more than 30 years of experience working for Fortune 100 companies, including Target and Lowe's.
SIOR San Diego Chapters Hosts “Charged” May Dinner
On May 23, the SIOR San Diego Chapter held its annual SIOR May Dinner at Red Tracton’s Restaurant & Bar in Solana Beach, Calif. with speaker and former Los Angeles Chargers player, Nick Hardwick. The event sold out in five minutes with 70 attendees.
SIOR Northern California Chapter Enjoys a Perfect Day on the Course
The SIOR Northern California Chapter welcomed more than 100 golfers to its annual golf tournament at the Course at Wente Vineyards in Livermore, Calif. on May 2. Following the tournament, attendees enjoyed a dinner with prizes for the top golfers and a wine raffle.
SIOR Philadelphia Chapter Hits a Home Run with Philadelphia Phillies
The SIOR Philadelphia Chapter held a recruitment event during the June 27 Philadelphia Phillies v. New York Mets game at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia. Thirty attendees watched from a Hall of Fame box overlooking the third base line. Attendees saw Bryce Harper crush a 438-foot homer and Jean Segura hit a three-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to bring home the 6-3 win for the Phillies.
SIOR Philadelphia Chapter invests in the Future with Temple Scholarship
Brian Edmonds, SIOR, presented a $3,000 scholarship to Sarah Howell of Temple University to further her studies in real estate. The scholarship was funded through the SIOR Philadelphia Chapter and the SIOR Foundation. Ronald Anderson, dean of the Fox School of Business at Temple, attended the scholarship presentation.
SIOR Philadelphia Chapter Members Tee Off at Office Property Summit
The SIOR Philadelphia Chapter held its annual Office Property Summit on May 22 at the Union League Golf Club at Torresdale, Pa. The event had 110 attendees golfing in the afternoon followed by a reception featuring Lauren Gilchrist from JLL and Philadelphia City Councilman, Allan Domb. Gilchrist spoke to the group about regional office market trends.
First Annual Southwest Region Networking Event
The SIOR Southwest Region hosted the First Annual Southwest Region Networking Event on May 2 in Austin, Texas. More than 55 SIOR members from across Texas attended, as well as SIOR Global CEO, Tom McCormick, SIOR, and SIOR Global President, Robert Thornburgh, SIOR. Attendees enjoyed a catered cruise in Austin’s Town Lake followed by dinner at Bob’s Steak House.
SIOR Western Missouri/Kansas Chapter on the Links
The SIOR Western Missouri/Kansas Chapter held a Golf and Dinner Recruitment Event on May 23 at the Kansas City Country Club in Kansas City, Kan. Thirty members and guests, 10 of whom were prospects, joined the chapter for lunch and a round of golf, followed by cocktails and dinner.
SIOR Wisconsin Golf Outing Raises Dollars for Scholarship
The SIOR Wisconsin Chapter joined forces with CCIM’s Wisconsin Chapter for its annual golf outing on June 3 at Legend at Merrill Hills Golf Club in Waukesha, Wis. More than 100 industry professionals attended, including 20 SIOR members. A portion of the outing’s proceeds will support commercial real estate scholarships for students earning degrees in real estate in Wisconsin.
SIORS Served their Communities and Beyond for Service Day
SIOR Chapters participated in the 2019 SIOR Service Day by engaging in community service with organizations dedicated to helping others.
