OVERVIEW - Why He’s the Real Deal
“I find it hard to understand why people hate! You can be in a bad mood…but why hate?” Both poignant and inspirational, this question seems to epitomize
Jack Britvan, SIOR, a man who has dedicated his personal life to fighting and eradicating hatred, discrimination, and intolerance.
He’s more than just an SIOR. HIGHLIGHTS - Get to Know Jack
SR: What was your first job? JB: At 15 I started a catering company…"Party People"…still have a business card…worked it until my 3rd year of being a broker. I ran into a customer at a party that I was working and called in someone to replace me. That week I gave the company to my sister.
SR: What are you happiest doing when you’re not working? JB: Being with my wife and adult children, or else sitting in my media room with a good single malt scotch and relaxing. My family might say the media room comes first…
SR: Flashback to when you were 10 years old. What do you want to be when you grow up? JB: A New York Yankee.
SR: What’s your hidden talent? JB: I can cry on command. What's one thing about you that surprises people? I don’t dye my hair!
SR: How do you want people to remember you? JB: As a man that cared more about others than himself.
SR: How do you emulate #SIORGivesBack? What are some causes you care about?
B: For 24 years I sat on the Long Island Board of the American Cancer Society and received The Great SmokeOut Award for my involvement in establishing The Smoking Bans on Long Island that have spread throughout the United States.
In 2014, I started to educate people on the history of WW2, the Holocaust and other, genocides. I’m the founder of Voices For Truth and Humanity (Voices4TH.Org) and have been invited to The United Nations four times in the last two years. Voices4TH’s mission is to promote the education of WW2, the Holocaust and other, genocides in public schools throughout the country. Our goal is to ensure that "Never Again" will ANY GROUP suffer atrocities because of dehumanization by others.
In 2019, I was asked by New York State Regent, Roger Tilles, to be one of four people on a New York State Task Force to advise on WW2/Holocaust and other Genocide Curriculum in New York State public schools.
In January 2020, I was asked to serve on Long Island's Stop The Hate Task Force.
SR: What’s the greatest risk you’ve ever taken? JB: Going on the Cyclone at Coney Island…3 times in a row. I hate roller coasters!
SR: What book has influenced you the most? JB: One of my kids' books that I would read to them: The Giving Tree. Everyone should read the book a few times a year for direction.
