A Look At: Remarkable

By: Mike Warner, SIOR

Organize your thoughts with ease with this "paper tablet."

WHAT IS IT

A digital “note pad” that feels like paper. A tool for note-taking, reading, and reviewing documents. No social media, e-mail, or notifications. No distractions, just you and your thoughts with a pen-to-paper, note-taking experience.

HOW IT WORKS

A lightweight, minimalist crossbreed of an iPad and e-reader, it replicates the experience of using a pencil or pen on paper, while removing the inconvenience of actually lugging paper around (whether that's a notebook, sketchbook, or book). With no backlight or glare, reMarkable offers a paper-like reading experience unlike an LCD display. Annotate your documents just like you would on paper. It converts handwritten notes to typed text.

WHY USE IT

The reMarkable is geared towards people looking to replace their stack of paper notebooks with something more convenient, with an impressive number of features to meet those needs. You can have notebooks for meetings, sketches, or anything else your heart desires. When you want something more than just a blank canvas, the reMarkable has a bundle of page templates to give your work a bit more structure. There’s lined paper formats, grids, checklists, storyboards, weekly planners, and perspective grids to give your art a bit more depth. Basically, it can mimic any sheet of paper you'd need, without killing a single tree. I can also say that it is really cool and each time I pull it out I get asked, “What is that?!”
