HIGHLIGHTS - Get to Know Bill
SR: Do you have any special holiday traditions that you look forward to every year?
BG: I dress up as Santa each year for clients, schools, churches, and friends I know. I tell a story about the red bird. Have you ever seen a Cardinal? It’s there and then it’s gone! Long before there was “Elf on the Shelf” the real Santa was told by all his red bird friends what little boys and girls were doing. They would be in the yard then they would vanish to the North Pole to report to Santa. I always have a red bird at the top of my Christmas Tree.
SR: What would you name your boat if you had one? (or if you have one, what’s it called?)
BG:“What Are You Looking For?”
SR: If you could play a round of golf with any three people, living or dead, who would they be?
BG: John Wayne, Billy Graham, Dave Matthews.
SR: What’s the most memorable fish you’ve ever caught? Did you keep it or release it?
BG: I have caught a 10lb Largemouth Black Bass and released it.
SR: If you could spend a month in any location, where would you go, and what would you do?
BG: On a sailboat in the Caribbean, going from little island to little island.
SR: What is your proudest achievement outside of your career?
I have been married 49 years to my bride, Margaret, and raised three great and wonderful children who have given us 7 beautiful grandchildren!
SR: As someone who supports the SIOR Foundation and has done a lot for his community, what’s one initiative you’re particularly proud of being involved with?
BG: I have been greatly involved with two bond issues for Aldine Independent School District, both of which passed, to build new more modern schools and infrastructure in one of the largest, poorest school districts in Texas. If it has anything to do with kids and education Margaret and I are all in. We have raised well over $5,000,000 to support the Aldine Education Foundation which gives scholarships and teacher grants to deserving students and teachers. SR: Do you have a favorite saying or catchphrase that you often use?
BG: When I get on an elevator or pass folks in a hall and they ask me how I am doing I always respond, “I am blessed among men, thanks for asking!”
SR: If we went to happy hour, what would you order?
BG: Probably “coldbeer!” Please note in Texas it is one word!!!
