SIOR Foundation President's Letter

By: Kraig Heeter, SIOR

Dear SIOR Members and Colleagues,

The SIOR Fall Conference in Louisville was an amazing experience. I enjoyed seeing everyone in attendance and was excited to begin my term as your President of the SIOR Foundation. I took the reins over from Ted Konigsberg, SIOR and cannot thank him enough for his sacrifice and unbridled support this last year!

Our mission stays clear — Support need-based students, Partner with universities, and to Educate, Enhance, and Expand the commercial real estate industry. Partnering with SIOR Global has been an incredible alignment, and we were proud to sponsor speakers and educational breakout sessions throughout the conference.

While in Louisville, we learned the devastating news of Herb Krumsick’s passing. Herb was President of the SIOR Foundation from 1989-1990, but he continued to play an integral role in the development of the Foundation and its core missions. Herb’s invaluable dedication, expertise, and humor will continue to leave their mark on the SIOR Foundation.

I, and the rest of the SIOR Foundation executive team, Bill Burgess, SIOR, Mark Duclos, SIOR, and Stan Klweno, could not serve the commercial real estate industry without the support of our Board of Trustees. We are proud to welcome this year’s new trustees. Each has signed up for a three-year term to help support our goals through volunteering, fundraising, and stewardship of your SIOR Foundation.

  • Carmen Austin, SIOR, Saurage Rotenberg Commercial Real Estate – SIOR Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Northwest Florida Chapter
  • Michael Boyd, SIOR, REA Boyd's – SIOR European Regional Chapter

  • Jim Klein, SIOR, Klein Commercial Real Estate – SIOR Greater Los Angeles Chapter
  • Joseph Larkin, SIOR, First Realty Advisors, Inc. – SIOR Colorado Chapter

  • Don Moss, SIOR, Colliers – SIOR Carolinas Chapter
  • JR Steinbaur, SIOR, Steinbauer Associates – SIOR Florida Chapter
  • Christopher Thomson, SIOR, Cushman & Wakefield – SIOR Florida Chapter

We had an impressive group of students join us in Louisville for the Student Real Estate Experience Program. There were eight students representing seven different universities!

(L to R): Clay Maddox, Clay Daniel, Russell Lee, Cooper Bailey, Russell Malone, Zach Gallagher, Luis Rodriguez, and Nicolas Sanchez, along with chapter mentors David Hagan, SIOR, Michael McFall, SIOR, and Thomas Hipp, SIOR.

We expect big things from these young men as they continue their studies and enter commercial real estate. Thank you to all who took the time to meet them and offer your expertise and advice.

This year’s Giveaway was a tremendous success! Thanks to your generosity, the Foundation netted $32,700 to support its programs and initiatives. And the winner is Monty Warren, SIOR, Beau Box Commercial Real Estate. They will receive a free registration, plus hotel and travel, to the SIOR 2026 Spring Event in Palm Springs.

A huge thanks to our sponsor, SparrowHawk Real Estate Strategists, Houston, TX. Without SparrowHawk and its founder, Alfredo Gutierrez, we would not be able to continue this annual tradition. Thank you for helping the SIOR Foundation continue to Educate, Enhance, and Expand the commercial real estate community.

Sincerely,

Kraig Heeter, SIOR
