And Looking Forward to the Future
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
80 years. Countless conferences and networking events. More than 3,400 members in 42 countries. We've come so far, with so much promise of where we are still headed. Let's take a look at what SIORs have loved the most about SIOR, and what they are most looking forward to.
All of my favorite SIOR memories have been with the PEOPLE I have met and formed relationships with!
"My favorite memories have been all the conferences I've attended, and all the amazing relationships that have resulted from them."
"The blending of SIOR friends, family, travel, education, and networking, have made for unforgettable experiences."
"There are too many great memories to recall: from Bill Burgess jumping in the river in San Antonio to raise money for the Foundation, beach games in Hawaii, teaching SIOR classes, being a part of raising awareness on membership diversification, or surviving and thriving the 2009-10 financial meltdown, it's all been fantastic."
Over the years we've learned that SIORs join for the prestige, the deal making, the education, and the networking, but it becomes so much more than that. SIORs become family - not in a cliché way, in a true sense of the word. They gather for business and for family gatherings, they help each other with deals and support each other's personal endeavors, and they go the extra mile to be there for one another in and out of the office. It's the people that make SIOR great, and will continue to for years to come.
The joy and sense of professional accomplishment after receiving my membership certificate in the mail in 2009 was most memorable!
"Watching and laughing with Jim Caronna as he calls the winners at the Bull & Beer events at the SIOR conferences are great memories! My fondest memories are traveling to different markets, meeting great professionals, and learning from the terrific programming."
"By far my favorite memories are attending conferences with my dad when I was just a kid. My dad had developed so many great friendships that he would often combine a conference with a family vacation. When I became an SIOR, you did not have to sell me on the special relationships that developed with fellow members."
"It's great to meet SIORs from around the globe, learn together, socialize together, and get to know the brokers I'm doing business with on a personal level."
I enjoy the instant respect you get when dealing with a broker from another market.
"The comradery and networking between SIORs across the country is like nothing else! SIOR has built a great platform for commercial real estate brokers!"
"There's been so many great memories, from all the great parties and deals. SIORs are my best friends in the business."
"The blending of SIOR friends, family, travel, education, and networking have made for unforgettable experiences."
FUTURE PREDICTIONS
We Asked, You Answered: In 80 Years, what will the CRE Industry look like?
Brokers will be the sommeliers of real estate. Adding value by specializing in all aspects of real estate. Not just by pointing out the pricing, but by highlighting the nuances that create the perfect pairing of property to user.
There will be zero personal interaction - it will be all data processing [we hope that's not true!!]
Amazon will build the first warehouse in outer space and Elon Musk will perfect just-in-time delivery through the stratosphere!
"Most fruits and vegetables will be grown inside large warehouse buildings."
As long as decision are taken by human beings, good advice from a professional broker will always be appreciated. nevertheless, digitalization and AI will be increasingly challenging for us.
"Land brokers will be pushed out to mars because there won't be any more sites left on earth."
E-commerce centers will have retractable roofs for drone deliveries. Solar skins on buildings will be the norm.
"The role of a broker will need to change to that of human/machine intermediary as buildings will 'manage themselves' using artificial intelligence to complete many tasks."
The future of commercial real estate will still be people! There has been so much buzz of recent about technology, but people are the deal makers...that was the case 80 years ago, remains the case today, and will be the case 80 year from now.
"Building materials will be recycled as natural materials become more and more scarce."
Gonzo's and Big Bird's great grandchildren will do it all for us.
"It will be somewhere between the Flintstones and the Jetsons."
"The future of brokerage will depend on how we, as brokers, can continue to be relevant to our clients. It will be no doubt a combination of how we adapt innovations available to us as well as how we continue to use our imagination and create innovations of our own."
"The role of the broker will always be there. The internet and computers don't understand the back story on why a transaction is happening."
