HIGHLIGHTS - Get to Know Amy
SR: What are three things you want to achieve in the next 20 years?
AC: Visit all seven continents, get my golf handicap down to 20 or below, and raise my kind and curious children up to be useful adults.
SR: As a writer and influencer, what is the best advice you can give to a fellow content creator?
AC: Be consistent and be authentic. If you are trying to be what you think people want you to be, it shows.
SR: What’s the greatest risk you’ve ever taken?
AC: Starting Beyond Commercial at 26 years old without any previous real estate experience. My friend and mentor Franco Ferrari qualified my brokerage until I took over as managing broker two years later. I’ve built it brick by brick through relationships. I also have had some rough spots where I doubted myself and wanted to throw in the towel.
SR: What’s one thing you wish you knew when you started your career?
AC: Trust your gut with clients. If it feels like it will be a bad fit, then it probably is. Working for a jerk will suck the joy from your soul. Work alongside clients who respect you and treat you like the trusted advisor you are.
SR: Describe your perfect day.
AC: Breakfast at a diner, visiting the farmer’s market, going for a run,
eating a tasty lunch with what I got at the farmer’s market, taking a nap, reading a book, driving some backroads, finding a local pub with live music, dancing, and then home to unwind.
SR: Who is someone you admire, and why?
AC: My mother-in-law Jo Ann owned several retail small businesses and inspired me to go into business for myself. Whenever I’m dealing with a challenge, I can count on her to be a sounding board for me.
SR: As a mother, what is something you’ve learned that you might not get from a parenting book?
AC: There’s no way to prepare for everything so you might as well travel light. I stopped using a diaper bag instead I keep a quart-sized ziplock bag with what I need in my car or purse. I also learned that the best “toys” are cardboard boxes from Costco or the most mundane things. Last, kids love to have routine and want nothing more to spend time with you. So we have established weekly fixtures in our household like pizza and movie night.
SR: What’s your favorite holiday?
AC: Christmas. I’m like a kid in a candy store every year. And it’s amazing to see the wonderment in my children’s eyes. As a family, we spend significant time on “the Avenue” as they host several events for the holiday season. I also have several themed outfits, including an elf costume complete with tutu. One of my clients met me sporting said elf outfit while ringing the bell for Salvation Army and singing Christmas carols. Somehow, he still took me seriously enough and had me help him buy an office building years later.
SR: What inspires you?
AC: One community I belong to is the Power Beacons, which is comprised of several commercial real estate women. I always leave each encounter with these ladies feeling inspired and ready to take on whatever comes my way.
